Adorable palm-sized Komainu

This Komainu figurine is made using the traditional techniques of Edo Kimekomi.

Kimekomi is a technique where grooves are carved into a base made from "toso" (a clay-like material made from hardened paulownia powder), and then beautiful fabric is fitted into the grooves.

Komainu are believed to ward off evil, and traditionally, a pair of them are placed on either side of the main hall of a shrine. However, we thought it would be nice if they could become more familiar by giving them names like "Shiro, Kuro, Charo" (White, Black, Brown).

Since the doll is light, durable, and resistant to losing its shape, it can be easily displayed anywhere.

It would also make a delightful gift for celebrations or as a prayer offering for loved ones.
