In 1965, SIERRA DESIGNS was born from the hands of two outdoorsmen, George Marks and Bob Swanson.
In the early 1960s, before outdoor leisure became a new culture in America,
the two, while working at the shop 'Ski Hut' in Berkeley, California,
spent their days immersed in outdoor sports and camping.
One day, the two were caught in a fierce storm at sea and were shipwrecked, barely escaping with their lives.
Through this experience, they keenly felt anew that clothing and gear could determine life itself, and decided to create outdoor equipment that would support activities in harsh environments, and ultimately, things they could entrust their lives to.
Leveraging the ideas and techniques cultivated over many years of outdoor life, their apparel, bags, tents, and sleeping bags soon gained a reputation, and SIERRA DESIGNS grew into a high-performance, high-quality outdoor brand, continuing to lead the outdoor scene for over 50 years with countless standard-setting ideas and technical capabilities.
