In 1965, SIERRA DESIGNS was founded by two outdoorsmen, George Marks and Bob Swanson.
In the early 1960s, before outdoor leisure became a new culture in America,
the two worked at the shop 'Ski Hut' in Berkeley, California, and spent their days engrossed in outdoor sports and camping.
One day, the two were caught in a fierce storm at sea and barely escaped with their lives.
Through this experience, they were keenly aware that clothing and gear could make the difference between life and death, and decided to create outdoor equipment that would support them in harsh environments, and ultimately, things they could entrust their lives to.
