Emphasis was placed on how to make it tough and improve heat retention using natural materials. Vests that can rationally improve heat retention by layering are common now, but they were revolutionary at the time. Originally produced in Schott's signature black, this is a civilian version that likely did not exist. The fabric is inspired by the fine-wale pique material (cord cloth) used in 1940-50s deck jackets. The lining is made of a wool-alpaca blend fabric for excellent cold protection. The front zipper uses a U-shaped top stop. This is a versatile item that can be worn over a Schott rider's jacket or as an inner layer.
