Once quietly shelved as VHS horror titles in rental video stores, these two works spread the experience of their “fear” by word of mouth, becoming the starting point and origin of the J-horror movement. They continue to be spoken of as legendary works.
For the first official theatrical release in 25 years since production, complete supervision by Takashi Shimizu—the director and screenwriter, the "originator of the curse"—was realized for both picture and sound. This update creates a new terrifying experience on the big screen and boosts the works. The footage was converted into a 4K master for high-resolution, high-definition imagery, and the original stereo audio was evolved into 5.1ch with surround effects to deliver delicate yet powerful horror direction.
