I am Fukatsu, one of only two Edo fan craftsmen left.

This fan uses "Hon-susudake," a material now considered rare.

Hon-susudake is bamboo used in thatched roofs, smoked for 100-200 years by the smoke from an irori (hearth), turning it amber. Despite being light, it is extremely durable, resistant to deformation, and its unique luster is very appealing.
